Holiday cookies in a jarHave you finished your Christmas shopping yet? Oh, you finished in November? Well good for you. I just finished this weekend and I’m feeling pretty good about it.

There are a handful of people on my gift list who I never know what to buy for. Its either that I don’t know them very well or its a whole family I’m trying to buy one gift for. I decided this year instead of getting them something I’m not sure they’ll ever use I would give the gift of cookies. Everybody likes cookies, right?!

I was skeptical about how these would turn out just because the recipe was designed to fit in a jar. Let me tell you my fears were completely unfounded. These cookies were amazing.

Crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside. M&Ms. Chocolate chips. Pecans.

These make a really cute gift in a jar or I would totally recommend just making them to have on your holiday table. The colored M&Ms make them really festive and could easily be swapped out for other colors to gift for another occasion.

1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup cooking oats
3/4 cup green and red M&Ms
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 – 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Layer ingredients in a quart sized mason jar in the order listed above. Pack each ingredient down firmly. At the end, use as many pecans as you can fit so they are flush with the top of the jar.

Screw on the cap for the mason jar and tie on a 6″ square of fabric. You can attach a recipe card with instructions for baking the cookies.

To bake:

Empty contents of jar into a large mixing bowl. Stir all ingredients together.

Add 1 egg slightly beaten, 1/2 cup butter slightly melted, and 1 teaspoon vanilla.

Mix well using a wooden spoon or your hands.

Roll dough into 1 1/2 inch balls and bake on a parchment lined baking sheet for 10 minutes at 350ºF.
